UPDATE: After I left scathing feedback for AVID, ( mind you I was mad because of the bad unit apparently I received. They got in touch with me, that impressed me because so many companies today take your money and run). I didn't have to chase them down.
They offered to "give" mke at their expense the more expensive portable inflator model, the shipping to me, and a $20 Amazon gift card ( have not received that $20 gift card yet). The replacement inflator unit they make is like a cordless drill with a rechargeable battery, and hose and various ends. It also has the in-fuse line you can plug into to accessory (read cigarette) port. I wanted none of that!
I thought okay, if they want to foot the bill I'll let them ship this portable cordless power drill -like airflator to me. It arrived, I read the directions 2 times so as to not louse anything up. It's very simple to operate and hey, IT WORKS VERY WELL ! I owe AVID and apology for chewing them out, but it was a hot day when the original unit started smoking in my car. SInce mid October I have been sick with pneumonia requiring hospitalization more than once. I wasn't my usual "happy self".
This little portable unit they sent is great, I find no faults at all with it and believe me buddy, I looked it over. One on full battery charge it had energy enough to fill 4 17" tires from low 30's psi to a set 38 psi, and the doughnut spare in the trunk had 20 pounds and I got it up to 45….but little guy was slowing down and taking it's time to inflate the spare. That's ok, as it was last one filled and it had the lowest pressure.
I am giving AVID 4 stars and the only reason it's not 5 is because of the initial trouble from the other unit I had. I will recommend them to anyone I know. Again, I'm sorry I was such a jerk and overreacted; Lord knows any machine built by the hundreds can have a "bad apple" or two get by quality control. I guess I had one of those bad apples at first.

**** Original review on faulty item***. I Know this isn't a high dollar, top notch air compressor for appx $30; but on my first attempt to use it, it started smoking and got very hot!
I was simply trying to add 5 lbs of air to a plain passenger car on a Chevy Monte Carlo. Nothing big or requiring high pressure. I try and keep my tire pressure at 35-36 lbs for a little better gas mileage. I'm returning this compressor ASAP. I would never buy another one, or accept a different one as a trade/ "make it right". I don't like or want fire hazards. Also, it was only around 74 degrees outside, so it wasn't like I was using it on a really hot day. BAD PRODUCT!
